Introducing the Board.

The Auckland Chamber of Commerce and Industry is governed by an eight member Board of senior directors and industry leaders with extensive experience in local, national and global business.

The Board is chaired by David Nathan.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE/DIRECTOR
Michael Barnett is Chief Executive of the Auckland Regional Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and a Director of both the Auckland Chamber and NZ Chambers of Commerce & Industry.

Michael is Chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunities Trust and is committed to their objectives of diversity in the workplace and achieving greater work-life balance.

Michael was recognised by the Queen in the 2011 New Year’s Honours with a NZ Order of Merit.

David Nathan

David Nathan

CHAIRMAN
David Nathan has been a Director of the Auckland Chamber since 1992 and is the current Chairman.

David is also a Director of a number of private companies in Auckland, and holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Auckland.

Chris Carr

Chris Carr

DIRECTOR
Chris Carr was appointed to the Chamber’s board in March 2007 and is a member of the Auckland Business Forum and a Director of Rally NZ. He was formerly a member of the Regional Land Transport Committee.

Chris is Managing Director of Carr & Haslam, founded in 1862, and the fourth generation to run the Mount Wellington, Auckland-based company. Carr & Haslam delivers cars and containers and has a staff of 70 and a fleet of 40 trucks.

Fred Hellaby

DIRECTOR
Fred Hellaby has been a Director of the Auckland Chamber since 1997. He was appointed to the Chairmanship in March 2011.

He is also the Managing Director of Wilson Hellaby Ltd, Chairman of Auckland Meat Processors Ltd and a Director of Mathias International Limited and PVLP Proteins Ltd, all private companies.

Fred is also on the Kings College Board of Governors and Council Member of the Meat Industry Association.

John Lindsay

DIRECTOR
John Lindsay has been a director of the Auckland Regional Chamber of Commerce & Industry since 1998, and was Chairman from 2003-2011. He was elected Chairman of the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce & Industry in June 2004. 

As well as his Chamber involvement, John has had extensive business experience as Chief Executive and a Board Member of a number of manufacturing and service companies, based in New Zealand and operating internationally, as a member of the executive committee of national Trade Associations and as an independent director of the New Zealand Rugby Union. 

He is currently also Chairman of Holcim (New Zealand) Ltd and a Director of several other companies including, McDonald’s Lime Ltd and The Lines Company Ltd.

Kate Daly

Kate Daly joined Fletcher Building as the Group General Manager of Human Resources in June 2011. Prior to joining Fletcher Building, Kate was General Manager Corporate Affairs, People & Performance for Coca-Cola Amatil (NZ). Prior to this she worked for Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch, ABN AMRO and Greenwich Healthcare Trust in London.

Kate holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (majoring in Economics and International Business) and a Bachelor of Science degree (majoring in Pharmacology) from the University of Auckland.

Peter Gulliver

Peter Gulliver

DIRECTOR
Peter is the Managing Partner of Deloitte’s Audit practice, having been a partner since 2005. In this capacity is responsible for 18 Audit partners and a team of approximately 160 professional staff. During his career with Deloitte Peter spent two years in the UK as part of Deloitte’s Global Development Programme.

Peter’s area of specialisation is external audit, financial reporting and risk management/internal audit. His role and experience includes advising clients across a number of different sectors and industries, incorporating the private and public sector. This includes working on a number of cross border assignments incorporating projects in Europe and Australia.

In 2008 Peter was named as New Zealand’s Young Chartered Accountant of the year. Peter is a past chair of the Otago Branch of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, and is currently a member of NZICA’s Nominations and Governance Committee which is responsible for recommending Board and Council appointments for New Zealand’s largest member organisation.

Mark Franklin

DIRECTOR
Mark was appointed Chief Executive of the Stevenson Group in early 2010. Prior to his current role, Mark was Chief Executive of TZ1 and prior to this Chief Executive of Vector Limited - one of New Zealand’s largest companies.

Australian-born Mark has extensive experience in the infrastructure, energy and technology sectors in New Zealand, Australia and Asia. His Chief Executive roles in the IT and Telco sectors have encompassed start up and consolidation activities. Mark has also held leadership roles in IBM Global Services Asia Pacific and was a Director of New Zealand Railways Corporation (Kiwirail) and is a current Director of WEL Networks Limited and UltraFast Broadband Ltd.

Ted van Arkel

Ted van Arkel

DIRECTOR
Ted van Arkel has been a professional director since retiring from the position of Managing Director of Progressive Enterprises Limited in November 2004. After completing 45 years in the Retail and Wholesale Business Sector, he joined our board in 2004, and is involved with a number of Public and Private Companies. These include being Chair of Restaurant Brands NZ Ltd, UNITEC NZ and Health Benefits Ltd.

Ted is also a Director of the AWF Group, The Warehouse Group Ltd, The Abano Healthcare Group Ltd and Nestle NZ Ltd. He is a Director of the private Company Danske Mobler and is a Director of his family-owned companies Lang Properties Ltd and van Arkel & Co Ltd.

Ted is also on the Board of Youthtown NZ.
