The Auckland Chamber of Commerce and Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) announced today they will partner to present the Westpac Auckland Business Awards in 2014.
The Awards will continue to be presented in central, north, south and west Auckland, but will now be presented under a common brand across the entire region and with the backing and expertise of two powerful business networks, the Auckland Chamber of Commerce and ATEED.
Chief executives Michael Barnett of Auckland Chamber of Commerce and Brett O’Riley of ATEED believe consistency across the Awards process will bring additional prestige to the winners and will allow firms to benchmark across the wider region.
Brett O’Riley says: “Collaboration is a fundamental principle at ATEED, and we are delighted to formalise our partnership with the Chamber for this year’s Awards and into the future.”
“Together, we are committed to Awards based on judging criteria which reward and foster innovation and excellence, and will help to grow the high-tech and export-ready economy which Auckland needs.”
Michael Barnett says it is important for companies to realise the Awards are about “celebrating business excellence – which is a business’ ability to ride out tough times and capitalise on the opportunities”.
“This year’s Awards will give applicants the chance to benchmark their systems and processes with the most successful companies across all of Auckland. The guidance from our facilitators, and engagement with the judging panel will also offer businesses the chance to learn from others who have gone through similar challenges,” says Michael Barnett.
“These Awards will recognise resilience, innovation, and the essential principles of business success.”
The dates for the Award presentations and full details of the application process and judging panel will be announced in April.

The Westpac Auckland Business Awards reward excellence in business, and celebrate business innovation and best practise.
Auckland Chamber of Commerce has organised and hosted the Auckland Central Business Awards since 2011. ATEED is a council-controlled organisation and is responsible for economic growth on behalf of Auckland Council. It began delivering Awards for the North, West and South regions in 2011. Prior to the Super City being formed, the Awards were delivered by enterprise organisations in legacy councils.
Auckland businesses are asked to submit entries to specific Excellence in Business categories, and are judged by an independent expert panel. Further details of the categories and judges will be available on www.aucklandchamber.co.nz from April 2014, when entries open.
Events recognising and announcing Awards finalists are held after entries close on 26 June 2014. A Gala Dinner and Award ceremony will be held in the last quarter of the year to announce and celebrate the Business Excellence Award winners in each region.
