Attending Australian jobs fairs to recruit skilled Kiwis
With surveys showing that more than 30% of Auckland businesses are having difficulty recruiting suitably skilled and experienced staff, economic development minister Steven Joyce’s announcement that a re-elected National Government will set up job fairs for New Zealand employers in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to recruit skilled Kiwis is exactly the kind of support policy business is looking for.
“In Auckland and the upper North Island there are skilled job shortages across the board, but especially in the construction trades, ICT industries and heavy truck driving,” noted Mr Barnett.
“It’s urgent – a here and now issue facing businesses seeking to grow and take advantage of the economic upswing.”
In November, there is a targeted employment event in Perth for New Zealand employers looking to recruit returning New Zealanders and other skilled nationalities leaving Western Australia.
“Extending the recruitment campaign to job fairs in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane without delay sends a great signal to business that if re-elected the Government would hit the ground running with pragmatic initiatives designed to get quick results,” concluded Mr Barnett.
